This is a list of the equipment I bought at the Kathmandu market. You can find everything there, from the lowest to the highest quality—even official stores. It’s a great place to put your bargaining skills to the test! I’ve included the prices I paid in USD, but keep in mind these are from 2017, so prices may have changed since then.



WTF? Only $275! … Yes, but keep in mind you’ll need to adjust for inflation. That said, Nepal is a budget-friendly country, and despite some price speculation, you can still find amazing gear at unbelievable prices.

"Everything starts with an idea"

 Everything starts with an idea, but how are ideas born? I believe they don’t originate here in this plane. They float in the air until someone intercepts them, and if that someone doesn’t turn them into reality, they keep floating around. What’s curious is that on that winter day in 2017, the idea of trekking in Nepal was floating around my house, and I caught it—or maybe it caught me. The truth is, my tourist visa in Australia was about to expire, and I needed to find a new direction. I had previously thought about returning to the place that awakened my wanderlust, Hawaii. Day 1: The Preparation

 We arrived in Kathmandu at 10 AM, everything according to plan. At the airport, we were delayed a bit while processing the visa. We had been told that we needed to bring a passport-size photo, but it turned out that it was no longer necessary. Then, a middleman got us a taxi for 400 rupees (4 USD) to get to the hostel (Alobar 1000). The guy got in the car with us, which caught our attention. After a few minutes, he subtly started offering us mountain guides and other services and became somewhat pushy. We got a bit annoyed and made him get out of the vehicle halfway. Once settled in the hostel (around 1 PM), we set out on foot towards the tourism office to obtain the "TIMS," which is the permit required to travel through national parks. (As far as I know, this is no longer necessary, and now you only need to pay the national park entrance fee directly along the way.) This permit cost us 2,000 rupees (about 20 USD at the time).
